Firstly ... sorry about all the sniffling on the video you might want to turn the sound down. The heavy breathing is also not really that indicative of the trail difficulty it was far more a case of being at the end of a weekend of descending and climbing .. I was spent but still trying to save the big muscles so was turning the legs over quickly.
I know I shouldn't be rubbishing this trail because on it's own this trail stretch is a great XC track, but after the awesome descents of Western Wedgetail, Pork Barrel and Double Dissolution a winding XC single track is a bit of a downer. Personally I would like to see another return option .. but maybe the topography doesn't account for my ideal scenario .. end of rant.
The Crim Track starts just up the fire road from the end of Double Dissolution. It has a fairly flat gradient with maybe a slight climb. The turns are fairly flowy even at a slow cruising pace they are pretty easy to navigate. There are a number of sections with rocks or roots in the trail but are barely worth mentioning and a few little dips give a nice break from the pedalling.
The trail pops out onto a fire trail for a few hundred metres before the next section, Dingo, forks off to the left.
Dingo is not dissimilar to the Crim Track. The descents are a little longer, the trail more open allowing you to carry some easy going speed. It's a short stint to the next fire trail, a right turn and then left onto White Gums.
Very near the beginning of White Gums is a large wide seesaw however if you aren't proficient at such activities you might want to consider the remoteness of the location before attempting.
For the most part White Gums is even faster and more open than Dingo it was also far more dusty, considerably looser. I suspect in summer this track can be very slippery on the edges so be careful on some of those right handers on the descents.
After an initial descent White Gums climbs up to the next fire trail, a right and left puts you onto Ringtail for the mostly easy going, winding climb up to Wombat Junction where the picnic table provides a very pleasant location for a break.
The trails in this section - Crim Track, Dingo, White Gums and Ringtail - are pretty consistent. On the most part they are open and flowy, have dusty edges, a few small rocks and you will be pedalling most of the way. There are no really difficult sections even newbie riders should get themselves through this section without putting the foot down too often.
XC riders probably love this trail for long distance sprinting (is there such a thing), for me it was a means to an end.
