Casurina Climb Fire Trail  

Notes:

Technically speaking the Casuarina Climb runs from the top of Party Line up to Wedgetail Junction, however for this purpose we are listing the entire fire trail from the Western Gate to Echidna Gap as this creates a climbing route that services a whole heap of trails on the north western side of Stromlo Forest Park.

From the Western Gate (the end of Double Dissolution and start of Crim Track) the trail casually climbs up to the top of Double Dissolution and end of Missing Link, Pork Barrel and Skippy’s. 

Take the left turn toward Party Line and then take the next fire trail to the right where the Casurina Climb sign is posted.

The climb increases and not far up the hill Skippy’s crosses the fire trail.  At the end of the straight the trail turns to the left and the climb gets really steep.  Tyre tracks suggest some guys have the power to pedal up this trail which beggars belief however what I cannot understand is why anyone would chose to descend this trail considering the other options available but the skid marks clearly show people do.

At the top of the main climb you should be able to get back on the pegs, ride up past the intersection of Magpie Rock / Slick Rock and up to Wedgetail Junction (the top of Magpie Rock, Skyline, Pork Barrel and the bottom of Rollercoaster and Western Wedgetail).

From here you can get right up to Echidna Gap.  Ride toward the gate and either go over the gate or ride around the left using the Rollercoaster trail (but be very careful of riders coming down at speed).  On the other side of the gate the trail would be too steep for most people to pedal but it’s only a short walk to the start of Western Wedgetail and Rollercoaster.
