Notes:

Before riding in the Pilot Wilderness make sure you have done your homework, done a very thorough check of the weather conditions and have all the necessary safety gear as this part of the country is unforgiving.

There is a bridge just up stream from where the Cascade Trail crosses Cascade Creek from the other side the trail from Cascade Creek to Cascade Hut is a short moderate climb along the south side of the creek.

From the creek crossing the trail follows the creek up stream (south east) for about 700m before turning 90 degrees to the right (south west) and away from the creek it is only a short distance until the turn off to Cascade Hut.

At the time of riding the turn off wasn’t signposted and the trail from down to the hut is almost entirely grassed over and could be easily missed.  Had I not studied the maps prior to riding and memorized the location of the hut I would have gone straight on by as hut is not immediately visible from the trail.

The Cascade Hut the sits in a grassy clearing up above the creek and about 100m from the trail.  There is plenty of room to spread out, logs to sit / stretch on, fire places and of course the hut itself.  The hut is a fully operational alpine hut regularly used by walkers and riders for overnight accommodation.  I arrived there around 10am to find a party of 6 walkers who had spent the night in the hut.

The ride back from Cascade Hut to Cascade Creek starts with a short pedal back to the Cascade Trail and then a nice descent for the remaining 800m to the creek.

This website is brought to you by MTB weekend warrior Aaron Markie.
There are plenty of great websites out there with a wealth of information about Mountain Bike Trails,
however in my experience its hard to get a good mix of info, maps, photos and videos of trails I've never ridden.
The idea of this website is to tie those 4 elements together and give you a more detailed look at the MTB Trails I ride.
If you have anything to add then let me know.
