Notes:
People ride up this road .. Aliens most likely, but you must walk or ride it – fast forward to 10mins for why – and it gets better from there.
Katore Rd starts from the intersection of Nusery Rd and Radio Hut Road opposite the Challenge and Genesis areas and runs up the mountain for an amazing 360° view of Rotorua.
It provides access to Tokorangi, Gunna Gotta, Corridor, Turkish Delight, Paddy's Run, Katore Jumps, Grinder and Double Down. It also hosts exits for the Pig Track and Lion Trail.
From Nursery Rd, Katore Rd climbs for a short section before rolling along the ponds and turning left up the hill. For yours truly the pedaling usually stopped somewhere between the Paddy's Run and Katore Jumps entrances however I saw plenty of guys pumping all the way to the top, one guy on a fat bike of all things.
The trails running off Katore Rd are not to be missed, I can’t count how many times climbed part if not all of it. But while the trails are amazing the views are simply spectacular, unmatched anywhere else in the forest.
Anyone who can descend a trail needs to climb Katore Rd at least once for the view (Tokorangi the easiest way down).
