This is one of the preferable ways back from Eagle vs Shark. Hill Rd is one of the longer roads in the Rotorua Redwoods, running from the end of Eagle vs Shark up to the shuttle zone and back down to the 8 Mile Gate carpark. On this video I’ve ridden or more accurately walked from the end of Eagle vs Shark up to midpoint of Corners.
The ride from the end of Eagle vs Shark and the intersection of Redtank Rd / Pipeline Rd up to Lentil Link was as far as I could pedal and even then I found myself zigzagging up the hill, however it’s a long hike from there up to the intersection of Frontal Lobotomy and Direct Rd.
Frontal Lobotomy is a reasonable climb (I’m told) up to the shuttle drop off. Direct Rd is a short dip before climbing up past the end of Sidewinder and up to the top of Hot X Buns.
Crossing Hill Rd a little further up are the Downhill Trails and a short ride beyond is where Corners crosses Hill Rd (continue on another 20m for the start of Little Red Riding Huck).
This section of Hill Rd is very picturesque and in that regard it’s a nice way to come back from a ride on Eagle vs Shark, however it is a fair climb.
