Notes:
The Deep Creek trail begins just a short way down the fire trail from the exit of the Brindabella trail and ends at the Terminal Velocity fire trail.
To find this trail get onto the Brindabella trail and when you hit the fire trail at the end turn left. The entrance is off the right of the fire trail and well sign posted at the time of riding. About 3/4 of the way along the trail it crosses the fire trail, keep and eye out for the signage for the continuation of the single track. At the end of the trail you again hit a fire trail with a sign to "Terminal Velocity". The way out typically involves riding Terminal Velocity, Spin Doctor, Shady's and Missing Link up to the intersection of Pork Barrel, Double Dissolution and Party Line (at the time of riding Deadgum Dam, the only other option, was shut).
Deep Creek dips down to the western border of Stromlo Forest Park, despite the drop in elevation this trail involves a lot of pedalling broken up by short flowy descents. It has its fair share of technical sections be they rocky climbs, rough sections, switchbacks and the odd root and rut.
The ride is quite picturesque, not so much for the vista per-se but more the landscape immediately adjacent to the trail. The contrasting colours of the dirt, rocks, grass, bush and pine trees, the rolling hills, valleys and drops, and the ever changing trail surface make for a really nice ride. If you have the pleasure of riding this trail lone-wolf you may enjoy a real sense of back country riding as I did (not usually found at a place as popular as Stromlo).
Listed as a green trail Deep Creek is definitely achievable for any competent rider. Realistically if you've managed to get to the trailhead you should be ok riding this trail even if you fail to get up some of the more technical climbs. Warning, there are some tight switchbacks similar to those found on Rollercoaster, Magpie Rock and Slick Rock.
As mentioned in the intro there is a lot of pedalling and consider that there is a long climb out from the end of the trail. If you struggle with technical rocky trails then give yourself plenty of time to ride and climb out from Deep Creek.
