Notes:
The Golf Course track runs anti-clockwise around the Golf Course from the top of Crackenback Drive to the bridge at the Thredbo Community Centre.
This is a shared trail and a narrow trail.
The climb up the sealed section is steep and tiring, by the time I got to the dirt at the top I was well and truly spent, which is why you will see me walking the opening few metres of fire trail.
The short fire trails intersects with the trail coming down from Meadows, a trail I have yet to ride, however from Thredbo’s description it sounds very technical!
Take the left hand turn onto the Golf Course single track and after a few small climbs the trail starts descending around the southern perimeter of the golf course. Note the trail runs right by tee-off areas so best to keep the noise to a minimum.
Just when you thought it was all downhill the Trail God’s throw in a steep short climb. After a full day on the mountain this climb beat me and I needed a decent break to catch my breath.
The good news is that from here on it is descending all the way back down to the bridge.
The trail has a lot of rocks in the path, some of which will grind or remove your mech so pay attention. Also worth considering is the number of metal grates. I’m not sure if you want to run your expensive light weight race tires on those? The mix of rocks, steps, gravelly bits and steep sections make it a fun flowy ride. It’s certainly a step up from the Thredbo Valley Track and Bridal Loops but not beyond beginner riders who can handle a single track descent
I believe you can ride this trail in winter, but apart from snow and ice the other thing to consider is that the trail will be soft (muddy/spongy) which will take a lot of energy as you climb the opening sections, but assuming its open for riding I would HIGHLY recommend taking your MTB in winter too!
BEWARE - These trails are shared with walkers. The MTB community have put a lot of energy into gaining the necessary approval to allow mountain biking. Enjoy the trail but PLAY IT SAFE, there are other trails in the Snowy to break free on.
