Notes:

The Magpie Rock trail is the middle and easiest section of a run I like to call the "Evil Way Down".  This run consists of Rollercoaster, Magpie Rock and Slick Rock.  All three of these trails have similar traits (narrow, tight steep switchbacks, lots of rocks and ruts) and require a greater level of bike control and confidence than the more common Western Wedgetail, Pork Barrel and Double Dissolution.

Magpie Rock forks off from Wedgetail Junction at the head of Skyline.  It ends at the Casuarina Climb Fire Trail opposite the start of Slick Rock.

From the start of the trail you climb up to the top of the hill through a series of tight rocky turns lined by 4ft boulders, it's somewhat reminiscent of the final section of Tall Trees as you approach Echidna Gap.

From the crest the trail descends and for the most part it's flowy and out in the open, however it's not as straight forward as it may sound.  The trail is quite narrow and lined with tall grass/weeds so the visibility is not so good (imagine Western Wedgetail with only 3m of trail visibility).  There are also a couple of tight turns and switchbacks and a few rocks on the trail ready to catch low pedals or send lazy riders OTB.

Magpie Rock is a lot easier than Rollercoaster and Slick Rock but not without its challenges and therefore if you are considering taking the "Evil Way Down" but aren't sure if you have the skills then try Magpie Rock by itself first.  If you get spooked you can always take the short route back up Casuarina Climb Fire Trail back to Wedgetail Junction and choose another route.

Magpie Rock should be rideable by a mountain biker with a basic level of single track cornering and braking competency.  A good trail for newish riders wanting to step it up a level and can be easily sessioned by taking the Casuarina Climb Fire Trail back to the top.

This website is brought to you by MTB weekend warrior Aaron Markie.
There are plenty of great websites out there with a wealth of information about Mountain Bike Trails,
however in my experience its hard to get a good mix of info, maps, photos and videos of trails I've never ridden.
The idea of this website is to tie those 4 elements together and give you a more detailed look at the MTB Trails I ride.
If you have anything to add then let me know.
