Notes:
Without question, Pork Barrel is my favourite trail at Stromlo Forest Park.
Pork Barrel begins with a left turn off the end of the Western Wedgetail at Wedgetail Junction. The fun starts immediately with an excellent 2ft drop/jump, a fast open section and fast banked left turn, a couple of jumps, A-B lines and plenty of rocks. It's a beaut!
The trail then heads up onto a large rock outcrop and turns sharply on a rough rock garden and through a narrow gap in the trees. On the other side there are a number of options, the one that I took was to the left and then straighten up around the tree for a more drops. It looked like there were some more seriously technical options around to the right.
After clearing the rocks the trail throws two banked corners at you with double rollers in between. I failed to get this right - they are designed to be hit at speed and the second jump cleared but I didn't have anywhere near the speed and confidence to do it so I just did my best to stay upright.
From here on the trail is fairly straight, not dissimilar to Skyline however it descends significantly and has lots of drops / jumps. From the video it looks like there are B-Lines down most of them however I was having so much fun popping off the 1-2 drops I didn't notice at the time.
The trail opens up at the end before arriving at a large fire trail intersection. There are a number of options from here however I highly recommend heading straight over and riding Double Dissolution, alternatively head right and climb back up the fire trail and do it again!!
I found it a great trail to practice dropping/jumping at speed, in only two rides I built so much confidence just "dealing with" what the trail threw at me. For intermediates wanting to build on their mixed bag of gravity Enduro skills this is where you want to ride!!
The video is of my first run .. I probably account for the majority of the video views because I can't get enough of it .. I LOVE IT !!
