Notes:
Roller Coaster is the alternate and much harder way down from Echidna Gap (the top of Tall Trees and Western Wedgetail) to Wedgetail Junction (the major intersection of Western Wedgetail, Pork Barrel, Skyline, Roller Coaster, Magpie Rock and the fire trail network).
While Western Wedgetail is open, fast and flowy Roller Coaster is tight and unforgiving.
The entrance to the trail is on the north side of Echidna Gap through a narrow opening in the dense brush. The initial section features some tight switchbacks with a fairly narrow and deeply rutted track, keeping a neat line is a big advantage. Avoiding gear issues and not taking one in the groin is preferable as well - see video.
As mentioned above the trail is tight from start to finish, there is little room for error. At times the trail hugs a steep hillside littered with very sharp rocks where falling is not an option.
It's not a trail for beginners but rewards riders who are confident navigating their way down steep switchbacks with loose dirt and tyre hungry technical sections.
On the fun scale Western Wedgetail wins hands down but if tight and technical is your thing you wont be disappointed with Roller Coaster.
