Notes:
The Wildflower Gardens fire trail runs from the North Western side of the St Ives Showground and rings around the Western edge of the parklands.
The trail descends rapidly with a couple of waterbars before bending left, the next section is quite straight and flat before forking to the right about 400m along the track.
You can however take the left turn and climb up to the Showjumping pavilion. If you are planning on riding through the Showgrounds to the Wildflower Single track then going left is the way out and it also avoids a long climb back up from the end of this trail.
If you choose to ride the full fire trail continue to the right and around the gate. From here the trail descends with some steep, rutted, water channelled and loose sections, rock shelves, a creek crossings and a rapid stop at the gated fence. I understand that the gate is open during the week however I haven't had the opportunity to ride there during work hours.
The climb back up is a bitch! Steep and lose it certainly gets the heart beating and the lungs burning. I was no where near able to climb this.. maybe when I’ve lost 10kgs.
This trail is nothing special, but it does add 1.35kms a reasonable climb to your St Ives ride.
