Notes:

Possibly the most exciting bit of non MTBing you will find - getting off the train at Woodford and riding to the Oaks trail head. The reason for including this road section is because it's very much part of the whole Oaks adventure and also serves to get you from the train to the trail head.

I got a real buzz out of seeing so many MTBers ready to take on this trail.  I was one of the last off the platform, if you look closely at the video and you will see the progression of riders going up the path on the other side of the tracks.  If you are riding this trail on a weekend morning and you are the only MTBer it might be worth getting on your phone and working out why (bush fires, back burn, flood over the causeway, dinosaur resurgence, alien invasion?).

This is a popular track!  You are going to come across a lot of riders (keep left, say hello, ride with a smile).

DIRECTIONS (if you are anally retentive - print this bit - or download the video - or the map).

  • Head down the stairs, turn left and then left up the stairs.
  • Take the path up to the road and mount up.
  • Head left (east-ish) up the slight hill and keep left along the fence all the way to the T-intersection (where there is a bridge over the railway to the left - DON’T TAKE THAT) go right.
  • At the top of the small climb stay left then at the intersection go left again.
  • Keep an eye to your right, about 50m on is the trail head - It's well signposted.

IMPORTANT - Don’t take a piss at the trail head!  A quick look left and right and you will realise you are next to residents.  How would you feel if every Saturday and Sunday hundreds of blokes took a piss next to your house!

FILL UP YOUR WATER - There is a tap at the gate, fill up your water bottles and hydration packs before you head off.

Comments:

This website is brought to you by MTB weekend warrior Aaron Markie.
There are plenty of great websites out there with a wealth of information about Mountain Bike Trails,
however in my experience its hard to get a good mix of info, maps, photos and videos of trails I've never ridden.
The idea of this website is to tie those 4 elements together and give you a more detailed look at the MTB Trails I ride.
If you have anything to add then let me know.
