Notes:
While trails like this would be highly regarded at other trail centres Chop Suey is listed in the official trail map app as “not recommended”. Compared to other trails in Redwoods I can see why but it would not be out of place among the trails at Taree’s Kiwarrak for example.
Chop Suey, sometimes referred to as one of the “Chinese Menu” trails (Chop Suey, Spring Roll, Sweet and Sour) heads off Reservoir Rd opposite Moonshine and not far from the end of Roller Coaster. In fact I rode Chop Suey after coming off a big ride from Te Tihi-O-Tawa via Split Enz and that wasn’t the smartest choice.
Chop Suey has a very steep climb that had me throwing up at the top, however I suspect it’s not so much the climb that gives it a “not recommended” status but more the uneventful and unrewarding descent.
While the redwood trees on Chop Suey are nice they aren’t as pretty as Rosebank and not a patch on Creek, so for my 2c take their advice and expend your energy elsewhere unless you are a sucker for hills.
