New November 2014 Video
Old Chevy is typically ridden as the final off road stint after descending Split Enz, Pondy DH, Pondy New and Roller Coaster however if you really like your XC then I recommend riding up Reservoir Rd from the 8 Mile car park and riding it as a stand alone trail.
Old Chevy is a beautifully constructed XC trail full of challenging climbs, fast flowy sections, rough-rooty-technical challenges and some mighty big drops - cleverly avoided by yours truly. Check out the technical section from 14:10 on the video, that was great fun.
It's a fair ride too, 4.5km of loamy single track through some amazing forest. Take some lunch, find a nice clearing, sit back and enjoy the serenity.
At the time of riding I was largely on auto pilot, focused on keeping the feet turning over and the body over the bike. It was my last run of the day and over 2 hours into the top to bottom adventure, I ended up bent over the bike gasping for air on many occasions. I regret not taking away the full experience that Old Chevy dishes up in BUCKET LOADS.
