Notes:
While accessible via roads (Pondy Rd aptly) Pondy New along with Pondy DH are trails that bring you back from Split Enz.
Pondy New darts off to the right from Pondy DH and settles in for a steady climb through some beautiful tall forest. It's a fair hike and quite tiring but the trail is brilliant.
From the top of the initial climb (3:27 in the video) Pondy New starts flowing its way down, gently in most places however there are some steep and rough sections. The first section of Pondy New ends at what I believe is Pondy Old (rd).
Unfortunately the trail signs haven't shown up clearly in the video, have faded or were stolen so I've done my best internet recognisance to try and determine where the trails start and end. It seems the most likely scenario is that Pondy New continues over Pondy Old (rd) and runs all the way to the intersection of Roller Coaster (which runs from the end of Chestnut Link)
After hitting Pondy Old (Rd) there's a short dog leg up the hill before turning left and continuing along the single track.
This second section of Pondy New is a lot more technical than the first section. Steeper shoots, more ruts, a few small drops and plenty of roots. It's a really fun section of trail if you're still thinking quickly.
Pondy New ends at the intersection of Roller Coaster. From what I can tell this intersection is an area with very little ground cover and large tall trees - quite different from the rest of the trail. Continue along Roller Coaster to find your way out of the forest.
Pondy New is not dissimilar to Split Enz however it has a fair amount of climbing, steeper descents and is more technical - but don't let any of that put you off because its a fantastic ride.
